Posts: 1510 04/09/09 21:12:10 Ratu	The first thing I thought when I heard the verdict last night was the the constitution was going to be abrogated and then Jack gave me hope that there might be another less painful way to make the whole thing go away. Too bad, I guess everyone got nervous about what could come back at them and bite them through the years with the constitution. It does stop LQ and SDL dead in their tracks. So in essence LQ fight for "democracy" actually put the last nail in the coffin for a while. However, I am all for everyone being equal, I assume the land rights are still protected, But I have to admit I wish they had worked out the 15 minute prime minister scenario, on the other hand the constitution has had some aspects that have given rise to problems starting to 2000 and then 2006 until now. Ahhhh Fiji, they should have just done it all in Dec 2006, somehow this feels like we have taken a few steps back before Fiji can go forward again. It feels like 1987 again and we all remember how long it took to get the constitution written and back on track. As they say here, not much you can do, just deal with it, and try to go forward or at least keep the snorkel above water.

Rabuka had good people working for him. Who does Frank have besides a bunch of ass kissers and losers? Will be interesting to hear from Mahen, the CCF, and the Indian population generally who supported Frank from the beginning. There is no pretence of democracy or human rights anymore. Even the Shyster and Ayearse? Are they in or out? Frank has no reason to pander to them anymore, no need to listen to any Indian whatsoever. Now we will see where the chips fall and who rears their ugly heads. The mad Pressie says he will appoint a new government. Who will agree to work for him and Frank? My guess is that it will be pretty much military only. Who else would want to be involved in high treason? Even Winston Thompson and Berenado Vunibobo, will they stay on or will they apply for asylum in the US. Both have family in the US, probably more than in Fiji. Winston was lucky to get out. I am sure you will feel the negative impact soon. There is no point in using that tired phrase "moving forward". Fiji is going nowhere but backwards as long as the military is in charge. You see they can command each other, but they cannot command money to grow on trees (though I am sure they will try to corrupt the RBF), they cannot command investment, they cannot command people to be motivated. Unless there is a quick counter coup, Fiji is finished for the foreseeable future. I wonder if it might be a good idea to start packing your bags? The next step economically will be to try to take over the RBF and print money. When that fails, they will be facing a massive devaluation. That will increase prices of everything. If you are involved in market agriculture and have secure title to land (nothing is secure without a Constitution) perhaps you can even benefit for a while. But your coffee and tea are going to cost more, and your cost of transport is going to go way up.

Honestly, it is not the way I would have liked to see it done. BUT if memory serves me right you were for abrogating the constitution during the Speight coup. I want to believe in the Fiji spirit that by abrogating the constitution a new one will be made that will promote a truer democracy rather than the coup consciousness. Even though this is not my country of citizenship I will stagger along with every one else in support of their belief for a truer democracy. I won't be packing my bags, that is not my style to run when it gets tough. So there you have it. On the other hand I think I won my bet with you, about FB not being executed or LQ being reinstated, so at some point I may collect on that dumbazz bet. However, to the rest of the gang on the board, I did like what the British High Commission said, about their priority is to support Fiji and no country outside of Fiji has the right to dictate to them, it is up to the people of Fiji. Theoretically speaking Fiji is starting off again from ground zero, lets hope this time everyone gets it right. Fiji's president...I was watching him closely tonight while he was trying to read his speech and you know how people accuse him of having alzheimers or whatever perhaps he just needs glasses, because it looked like he was having difficulties seeing the words and at his age there is no shame in needing glasses. I realize that in Fijian culture and I will spell this word wrong because I have never seen it in print, but they have a thing about being sungase (old) Jack I hope the judiciary that you think are magnificent will stay on, we will just have to see what the next few weeks bring since everything is by decree, maybe they will decree most of it to remain the same and the judiciary people will choose to tough it out. I notice Australia didn't hesitate to put up travel sanctions/advisories. But they may have cried wolf too many times and hopefully it will just have a short term effect as a result. I am sure NZ will follow. Lastly, I never want to hear any suggestions of a mini-coup from anyone, especially those not living in this country!!!!!! It might be all fun and games but for the people living here it is not. A lot of the grassroots are frightened right now, because they don't know what is going on and any upheavals in their experience have resulted in a coup and I can assure you the majority do not want that to happen. The good news is that the grassroots have been abandoned by their leaders for so long, they will just continue planting dalo, yaqona, cassava, beli and living off the land just like they have been doing for generations and contiue in the belief that this too will pass...and they are probably right.

The military represents about 0.5% of the People of Fiji and the goons leading them about 1% of that. So you call 10 people leading nearly 1 million people the People of Fiji? Boy are you stupid. The word you are looking for is "sunglasseh" means iloilo or "old fart with no balls". I can't wait for that "new one" that will promote "a truer democracy rather than coup conciousness". Do you seriously think you are going to get that under Voreqe? He has what he wants - absolute control and temporary immunity, and 5 years is far enough into the future that he can worry about renewing it in about 3 years, and the dying economy will give him an excuse. After all, he has been in power for over two years, the economy had dive bombed, and the President in all his wisdom has commended him for a wonderful job (backwards). I guess Voreqe must be giving him plenty of Gerbers baby food.

The majority are hard working people and the point still remains they would prefer Qarase to go and sit under the Mango tree in Lau and stop making trouble. The sum total of the impression he has left with the majority was the court case entitled him to get his retirement or whatever monetary gain he w]s after and none of what he did improved their life at ALL, it remained as always about Qarase. Nobody is throwing him any ticker tape parades.
