All I saw was all the Chinese students wandering around Civic during the afternoon with blank faces wondering "why are we in this boring place?".
They estimate the crowd was 20,000. 10,000 of these were Chinese students bussed in from Sydney and Melbourne. Conspicuously waving their Chinese flags. Cut your bloody student grants if you don't wave eagerly. A few thousand Tibet supporters. 500 police. Media reps. So who was there to watch the torch? There would have been many more people drinking beer in the Irish Pubs and sipping late's in the cafe's.
