Olympic torch protesters released on bail Posted 1 hour 41 minutes ago Seven arrests: Police carry a protester away outside Parliament House (AAP: Alan Porritt) Seven protesters detained by police during yesterday's Olympic torch relay have been released on bail. The demonstrators were arrested and charged for attempting to disrupt the relay. They were given police bail late yesterday. Despite clashes between pro-China and pro-Tibet demonstrators and allegations of aggressive behaviour towards Tibetan supporters, no one was charged with assault. The ACT's chief police officer Michael Phelan says his members took appropriate action where necessary. "There are people that will be appearing before the magistrates court at a date to be fixed and they've all been charged with offences under the Major Events Security Act for interfering with the running of the torch," he said.
