If people have a name, you don't try to force them to change it, and you don't try to steal it or adulterate it. Of course some people cannot understand this because they come from a caste system which does not recognize any rights for people they perceive to be beneath them.

By the way, the word "gay" is also a stolen word, but at least it was not someone's name getting stolen. Oops! I knew a girl in primary school named Gay. I wonder whether she has been forced to change her name or she still introduces herself: "Hello, I am Gay". You see the problem?

I doubt anyone has a problem with a "common name", and as of now, it stands as "Fiji Citizen", which I have not heard any objection to. Trying to use the word Fijian is a deliberate and insensitive attempt to marginalize and insult a whole ethnicity of People. In short, it is a thinly disguised Racist move.

So John Samy pushes for an innocent sounding concept "Common Name" for all Citizens of Fiji, but then tries to sneak in the back door a partial theft of identity. It is totally unnecessary. If he does not like "Fiji Citizen", perhaps he can pick a name no other race would feel insulted by like Kulina.
