One thing about Samy, lots of flowery words, but 2+3=9. The so called 2009 Budget is just another blue sky Manifesto, like the Charter. These guys have no clue where the money is going to come from. If they have done any revenue projections at all, they were not based on any realistic notion of macroeconomic trends in Fiji. It is fine dishing out money from the ADB, money generated from the wealthy nations of the World. It is a different thing to build a self-reliant economy. You see the army is a dead weight parasite in all this. Their only purpose is to keep the People and the media subdued. They are not going to generate any income, and their mere presents indicates that Fiji is deathly ill. The budget in these guys hands means nothing. It is a way of buying temporary support, but it is soon to backfire. $50 million over expenditure on the army, and they don't have enough money for toilet paper or nurses salaries. Good bye logic, reason, compassion, and ultimately this band of rogues and goons. "Government" (fake) is not in a position to "assure" anything, just empty promises.

Govt assures better infrastructure

Government is committed to improving its services to the people of Fiji particularly with regards to infrastructure development, says interim Works minister Timoci Natuva.

Natuva made the comment while commissioning the new Waimanu water pump in Sawani yesterday.

He highlighted the growing population along the Suva/Nausori corridor saying the high demand has led to the construction of a new pumping station on the upper Waimanu River.

"With its more than $310m budget allocation, the Ministry is in a stable and confident state to shoulder the need of ensuring proper, efficient, high quality and a long term sustainable infrastructure for Fiji," he said.

Some of the projects planned for next year are:

-improvements to the Tavua/Vatukoula regional water supply which will cost government more than $.5m, water main replacements around the country budgeted at $700,000.00;
-improvements to the Sigatoka Regional Water Supply which is marked to cost $3m;
-the Labasa Regional water supply improvements to cost Government $2.5m;
-the Rakiraki Regional water supply improvements which will cost $.5m;
-the Savusavu regional water supply, which is a major one that will establish a water treatment plant for the people of Savusavu, expected to cost $4m;
-the Natadola water infrastructure works, expected to cost $4m as well improvements;
-the Nabouwalu Regional water Supply which is budgeted at $2.5m

Natuva added the ministry wants to ensure that all necessary works needed for the improvement of services for the people of Fiji are facilitated.
