Especially with a Mininsteress who supports an army that overspends by $50 million and gives nothing to nurses. These nurses have opportunities overseas, madam, not like those soldiers soon to be unemployed when their UN contracts are terminated and ther return home to join parasite armed gangs who understandably think that the world and Fiji owes them a living. Fiji is fucqued, Luveni Yali, and you have been instrumental in the destruction of the Motherland. A traitor like your toyboy Judas Voreqe. A disgrace to Fiji and the human race. Let us see you come out and openly challenge the blatant robbery of public expenditure by the military, as anyone in your position should, or resign.

Meeting health needs a challenge: Luveni
26/11/2008
The challenge for Fiji is to adequately meet the health care needs of its population both rural and urban in the most efficient and cost-effective way, says interim Health Minister, Dr Jiko Luveni.

Dr Luveni made the comment at the opening of the Nakorosule Health Centre in Naitasiri, adding that the people of Fiji must make the decision to live healthy lifestyles.

"I want to reiterate that government is serious in the promotion and protection of the health of the population of Fiji and it has done this by ratifying international instruments such as the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the International Health Regulations," she said.

Dr Luveni said the most appropriate approach to ensuring our attainment of the Millennium Development goals are pertinent to health and the achievement of our seven strategic health outcomes of:

- reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases

- reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS and in the control and elimination of other communicable diseases such as dengue fever, typhoid fever and filariasis

-improving family health and reducing maternal death and ill-health

-improving child health and reducing child death and ill-health

-improving adolescent health and reducing adolescent death and ill-health

-improving mental health

-improving environmental health through safe water and sanitation.

These instruments she said, provide protection from global threats although many of the needs are the direct responsibility of government.

"The government passed its tobacco control laws in 1998 with the intention to protect the population from the ill effects of tobacco use.

Some of the recent achievement of this law has been the prohibition of smoking in public service vehicles including buses, taxis and mini-buses.
