Update: 4:29PM The Citizens Constitutional Forum has signed a $F1.2million new contract with the European Union under the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
The grant is designed to enhance knowledge of the Constitution, citizenship and human rights for the local community.
CCF executive director Reverend Akuila Yabaki said the award is a further acknowledgement of the importance of CCFs work in the current political circumstances.
The three year grant, from 2009 to 2011, comes under the EIDHR specifically designed for improving the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in countries and regions where they are most at risk.
"This funding will enable CCF to increase knowledge on Constitution and human rights, creating wider demand for development and a unified sense of citizenship," he said.
"Such community focused education will ultimately benefit all the people of Fiji through improved political leadership."
Mr Yabaki believes the program will encourage people to demand transparency and accountability of their chiefs, church and political leaders.
He said the social improvement will lead to increased political stability and reduced cases of human rights abuse.
